How Much Does an Irish Wedding Really Cost?

Wedding Venue Cost

Weddings are a time of happiness, celebration, and memories to last a lifetime, but weddings can also be quite expensive! If you’re planning a wedding in Ireland, you probably want to know about how much the average couple spends on their wedding day. Recent surveys and research report that Irish couples are spending more than ever on their weddings, contributing to higher costs overall and an increased desire for unique, personalised experiences.

So what’s average?

In 2025 the average cost of a wedding in Ireland is estimated to be approximately €29,000 to €31,000. This averaged cost covers everything including the venue, catering, wedding dress, entertainment, honeymoon etc. While this might seem like a ‘high’ figure, it’s important to note that Irish weddings have relatively higher guest counts, elaborate receptions and more often multi-day celebrations, especially in rural areas or when it involves going away for a wedding within the country.

Where’s The Money Going?

Here is a breakdown of the categories in which most couples are spending their budget:

1. Venue and Catering – €12,000 to €15,000

The majority of the budget will go to the venue and the food. Whether it be a five-star hotel, a charming rural estate, or a wet and modern venue in The City, the location chosen will set the tone for the mood of the day. The catering would typically consist of some canapés, a multi-course meal and a late-night snack.

2. Photography and/or video – €2,000 to €3,500

Preserving your memories is incredibly important to Irish couples. Many couples hire a professional photographer and/or videographer to secure all the memories in the best quality possible. Some couples are happy to spend the extra money on aerial video shots using drone footage or opt for a full cinematic film of the wedding day.

3. Wedding attire – €2,000 to €3,000

The wedding dress, the groom’s suit, other accessories and shoes, and any alterations all add up when it comes to wedding attire. From many brides’ budgets, they will also include hair, beauty treatments and makeup.

4. Entertainment – €1,500 to €3,000

Live bands, DJs, traditional Irish musicians and surprise performers are all the rage. Entertainment sets the tone for a lively reception and will be a source of timeless memories.

5. Flowers and Decor – €1,000 to €2,500

Bouquets, centrepieces, ceremony backdrops etc. will all add up rather quickly when counting the flower and decor costs particularly for couples who have a theme in mind or a specific bloom in mind for each season.

6. Wedding Planner – €1,000 to €2,000

Although not all couples hire a planner, for those that do, most find it a very worthwhile investment. A planner will save you time and limit the stress of planning a wedding, plus they likely are able to negotiate a better rate with vendors than individuals.

7. Honeymoon – €3,000 to €5,000

Many Irish couples still indulge in a honeymoon, after the wedding. Couples find this is the adjourn post chaos of logistical planning and the best way to relax.

What is Causing the Price Increases?

There are numerous reasons why we are seeing wedding costs increase across Ireland:

  • Inflation and supply chain issues have repressed the prices of both goods and services, creating an upthrust across prices.
  • Weddings are now more about expectations for personalized and Instagram-worthy specifics, which is increasing spending on aesthetics and experiences.
  • Some of this inflation relates to the post-pandemic wedding boom, creating a demand creep, allowing venues and suppliers to raise their rates.
  • People are also financing more extended celebrations; for example, day-after brunches, or pre-wedding parties.

Ways to Save on Your Wedding Expenses

While the average wedding cost Ireland is high, there are certainly couples who plan their beautiful weddings without spending too high. Here are some suggestions to save on your wedding:

  • Prioritize: Get clear about what is important to you, whether it’s the venue, food, bar, or entertainment and plan your dollars accordingly
  • Restrict the number of guests: You can significantly reduce the costs associated with your wedding from food, seating, and favours by limiting the number of guests
  • Consider an off-peak date: If you are open to a weekday wedding, or months that are less popular for weddings, you may save significantly on your costs
  • DIY: If you can do it yourself, you can save money on the costs. From invitations to décor, adding some personal touches can help with costs
  • Keep track of all your costs: Use a budgeting app or spreadsheet that records every expense and will help you stay on budget to avoid surprises!

Final Thoughts

Although €30,000 seems like a lot of money, every couple has a unique wedding. Some couples may decide to go all out and have an extravagant wedding while others may choose an intimate celebration. The most important thing is to make a day to celebrate your love story, which reflects your lifestyle. Wedding planning  in Ireland can be successful at any budget, as long as expectations are realistic.
